In a few minutes from now the world will say goodbye to World Extreme Cagefighting (WEC). The promotion that showcased the lighter weight fighters and consistently put on amazing cards from top to bottom that spans nine-plus years and more than 50 events will merge with sister organization the UFC in 2011.

WEC’s debut in Arizona closes 2010 with a bang featuring Glendale’s Ben Henderson defending the lightweight crown against 23-year-old superstar Anthony “Showtime” Pettis on Thursday, December 16, 2010 which airs live on Versus from Jobing.com Arena in Glendale, Ariz. The winner is guaranteed a title shot against the winner of an upcoming UFC championship bout between current champ Frankie Edgar and challenger Gray Maynard.

 Also on the card is a WEC bantamweight championship title bout between current title holder Dominick Cruz and challenger Scott Jorgensen. The winner of this bout will be recognized as the new UFC Bantamweight Champion.
